Finding Your Voice

A subscriber once forwarded me an issue of AI For Developers and told a coworker "you have to read this one, it's so him." I didn't ask what "him" meant. I already knew, because I'd been trying to write that way on purpose for a year by then. That's what voice is. Not a personality you perform, the residue of every real decision you've made about how to say things, consistent enough that a reader can spot your writing with the byline covered.
