Defector is worker-owned, founded by former Deadspin writers after a mass walkout, and its newsletter carries the same irreverent, sharply written sports and culture coverage that built those writers' reputations in the first place. It doesn't chase every breaking story so much as go find the angle nobody else is writing.

Because the staff owns the publication, the writing has a freedom from corporate sports-media pressure that shows up in both the humor and the willingness to go after leagues and sponsors directly. People come here for the voice as much as the news.
