History Today
Long-form history writing from working historians.
About
History Today gets its writers from actual working historians, which shows in the depth, though the magazine has always aimed the result at engaged general readers rather than specialists. It covers everything from ancient civilizations to twentieth-century politics.
Expect feature-length articles, book reviews, and pieces that connect historical episodes to present-day debates. If you want history writing with genuine scholarly grounding and none of the jargon, this has been the formula for decades.
