ChatGPT has become a general-purpose writing assistant for a lot of newsletter writers — brainstorming issue topics, drafting subject line options, summarizing a long article you want to reference, or just talking through an idea that isn't fully formed yet. Unlike single-purpose tools like Grammarly or Hemingway, it can help at any stage of the process, from the blank page to the final polish.

The tradeoff is that it takes more effort to use well: left unedited, AI-generated text has a recognizable flatness to it, so most writers who rely on it are using it to get unstuck or handle a mechanical task, then rewriting the parts that actually reach readers in their own voice.
